The Challenge
Gorvex's Magento store ran on the Luma theme — slow, bloated with RequireJS/KnockoutJS/jQuery, and painful to customize. They wanted a modern, fast frontend without leaving Magento.
My Approach
Luma to Hyvä Migration
Stripped out the legacy JS stack and replaced it with Alpine.js and vanilla JavaScript
Tailwind CSS Design System
Utility-first styling — no more CSS specificity battles, easy for future devs to modify
GitLab CI/CD Pipeline
Automated linting, testing, theme compilation, and staging deployments
Async-First Delivery
Remote across US/EU timezones with regular video check-ins and async communication
Tech Stack
| Before | RequireJS, KnockoutJS, jQuery, LESS |
| After | Alpine.js, vanilla JS, Tailwind CSS |
| CI/CD | GitLab pipelines, automated deploys |
| Framework | Magento 2 + Hyvä theme |
Impact
Faster pages, confident deploys, and a codebase future developers can actually work with. Proof that Magento stores don't have to feel slow — with the right frontend, they compete with any modern platform.
